I grew up in Hastings, attended Hastings High School, then spent four years at Michigan Technological University in Houghton where I received my BA in Business Administration and learned to downhill ski. Yes, it is cold up there in the winter, but it’s a “dry” cold. I began my career in accounting with John L. Walker, PC in 1981 and became a partner in 1990, when the firm's name was changed to Walker & Fluke, Certified Public Accountants.
My specialties within the firm include:
small business accounting and consulting
individual and business tax preparation
tax planning and consulting
individual financial strategies
estate planning
computerized accounting systems
My goal is to provide clients not only with numbers, but to provide assistance and guidance with all their financial goals.
At Walker, Fluke & Sheldon, PLC, we believe that community involvement is a responsibility that we all have. Accordingly, I am involved in the following organizations: Kiwanis Club of Hastings (past president 1999-2000), Barry County United Way (treasurer), and I sit on the board for Hastings Mutual Insurance Company and Union Bank.
My wife Laura, daughters Erin and Katy, and I, enjoy spending time in Northern Michigan where we golf, mountain bike, paddle solo canoes, fly fish, and float the AuSable River in our restored riverboat. In the winter, it is time for downhill and cross-country skiing. A new hobby is handcrafting bamboo fly rods. Ron Barch of Hastings, a world-renowned rod builder and author is teaching me this art.
If you want to discuss your business or personal financial situation please give me a call; I would be happy to talk to you.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in the spring of 1992 and joined Walker & Fluke, PC (Walker, Fluke & Sheldon's predecessor) that fall. I was promoted to partner effective January 1, 2002. I am originally from Middleville, Michigan where I attended Thornapple Kellogg Schools.
Through the years, at Walker, Fluke and Sheldon, PLC I have gained extensive knowledge in governmental accounting and auditing. I actively oversee approximately twenty audits for governmental clients ranging from townships and villages to county road commissions. In addition, I perform audits and reviews for various non-profit organizations, credit unions, and construction companies.
I am a member of QuickBooks® Professional Advisors Program and currently support several governmental, non-profit and small business clients on an ongoing basis. I also take business and personal appointments throughout the year for consulting and tax return preparation, as well as help clients with trust and estate income tax return preparation.
I am a member of the Hastings YMCA Board of Directors. I am also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
I spend most of my spare time at the lake boating with my husband, Mark , our two daughters, Kyleigh and McKayla and our son, Blake. I also enjoy participating in league volleyball through the local YMCA Program.
I look forward to meeting and helping individuals and businesses with their accounting needs. Feel free to contact me to determine how I can provide quality service for you.
